Setting Performance Standards for New Hires

There is a lot of stuff that set out for new hires on their first day at the job including Orientation, familiarization with the company and other employees etc. What companies neglect to focus on are performance standards which may or may not be easy to set but are definitely difficult to maintain. Especially when they are still learning.

However. Companies need not worry. Through proper formal and informal training, the new hires can be made aware of the company’s expectations from them. The most important Keys to Setting Performance Standards as per in top recruitment consultancies in Bangalore for New Hires can be as follows –

On-the Job and Formal training

It is a known fact that 75% of the new hires consider on-job training as very enlightening during the first week. They believe in learning by doing which not only gets them accustomed to the work but also the required standards.

On-job + Formal training usually have a huge number of employees learning at the same time, so it is usually the best time to set the performance standards.

Increase Performance through Coaching

Managers trained in coaching techniques can help new hires familiarize with the company and their job duties which can in turn increase their performance levels. This coaching may not necessarily help set performance standards but it can definitely be used as an effective means to maintain performance standards.

Assign important tasks

These tasks need not be anything advanced or ground-breaking but they definitely need to mean something. Anything that may help the employee learn something new or assist them in meeting deadlines works.

Tracking Performance Standards

As you know, simply implementing the performance standards is not enough. It is important to schedule a meeting at the beginning of each month with the employee to discuss these standards. Here, suggestions can be given to the employee on how to improve performance.

Performance standards can be altered or replaced with more challenging ones as and when exceeded by the employees. Self-improvement is quite an important part of the overall employee development and growth.
